HELP SAN DIEGO PRESCRIBED GRAZING TASK FORCE
Our goal is to develop a collaborative framework for the adoption of prescribed herbivory,
grazing of sheep & goats, as an eco-friendly vegetation management tool for San Diego public & private land.
Our Goal
Inspired by successful community supported prescribed grazing programs that include Los Angeles. Ventura, Marin, Santa Barbara Counties, the SD Grazing Task Force goal is advocating a San Diego regional plan prioritizing appropriate areas for grazing and coordinate landowners in strategic networks to increase regional fire prevention and ecological health.
Currently, there is little coordination among landowners and entities interested in prescribed grazing. The SD Grazing Task Force is proposing a plan for prescribed grazing treatments strategically located adjacent to critical transportation corridors and designated Wild Urban Interface (WUI) areas with severe high wildfire risk to lives and property. We are requesting community support, feedback and collaboration.
This networking effort would increase the capability for landowners to compete for state and federal funding. Funders have a strong interest in fire prevention and ecological restoration, and prescribed herbivory addresses both goals by reducing fuel loads as well as restoring native grasslands.
