Our Goal

Our goal is to protect communities from wildfires by using sheep and goats to manage vegetation in an holistic way on public and private land in San Diego.

Inspired by community-supported grazing projects in California, Graze San Diego advocates for a regional plan. This plan will focus on grazing areas and coordinating landowners to improve fire prevention and ecological health.

There is currently little coordination among landowners and those interested in prescribed grazing. Graze San Diego, with support from various local entities, proposes a plan for grazing treatments in high-risk wildfire areas and critical transportation corridors. We seek community support, feedback, and collaboration.

This effort will help landowners access state and federal funding, as funders are interested in both fire prevention and ecological restoration. Prescribed grazing can reduce fuel loads and restore native grasslands.
